Capitoline Wolf (The Roman She-Wolf)
The
Roman she-wolf the statue is demonstrating a scene from the legend of the
founding of Rome. Of course, there is more than one legend about twin
brothers and Capitoline wolf. According to one; Romulus and Remus
are twin brother who ordered to their death into the Tiber River by their
grandfather’s brother. They were saved by a she-wolf who take cared for them
until a herdsman, found and raised them.
When
they had grown up, they turned back to grandfather’s city to take back the
city. They took over the city, however; Romulus killed his brother Remus to own
the city and named himself to the city.
It
is said that this statue actually was only a she-wolf statue. Then in the time
of Renaissance, they added the twin brothers Romulus and Remus.
For
years, the statue symbolizes a gift from Mussolini like an appreciation who
sees him as the founder of “New Rome”. He donated copies of this statue to
various place around the world. Before this information that I learn from
Wikipedia, I knew that the statue is like the way to say “Roman was here” by
Romans. Let's admit my information was cooler.
According
to all, the statue give me a trill sense because of her eyes.
Her
eyes are weirdly scared. Most of the art historian says that she has worried
eyes because she is protecting the twins from dangers. I see the fear in her
eyes more than a worry. What do you think? Did you like the behind story of
Capitoline Wolf? What do you think about her glance? You can share with me in
the comments or you can leave your opinions to my Gmail.
